After many teasers on Twitter, Netflix has today debuted the latest trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, which depicts a dark and beautiful retelling of the traditional story with the director’s signature fantastic attention to detail.
A brief teaser at the beginning of the year gave us our first look at the stop-motion movie. Ewan McGregor plays cricket, David Bradley plays Geppetto, and Gregory Mann plays the title character. Pinocchio is being co-directed by Mark Gustafson and Del Toro, who is best known for films such as The Shape of Water, Crimson Peak, and Pan’s Labyrinth. Del Toro has previously referred to the photo as a passion project.
The film is a piece of Netflix’s mini-stop-motion return. Along with Pinocchio, the streaming service also has Wendell and the Wild coming out this fall and is also developing new Chicken Wallace and Gromit movies.
