The House of the Dragon Trailer Is Here
Though many prequels have risen and fallen in the three years since Game of Thrones came to an unsettling conclusion, only one has survived the long night of HBO pre-production: George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal’s House of the Dragon. (Along with Condal, Miguel Sapochnik, who directed several Game of Thrones episodes, including the fan favourite “The Battle of the Bastards,” is the showrunner.)
As House of the Dragon gets closer to its premiere, we’re getting a better idea of the “different tone” the show will take. There’s still a lot we don’t know, but take it from Martin if you’re scared House of the Dragon won’t live up to its predecessor: “Anticipate away.”

Fans will be ecstatic to learn that we’ll be returning to George RR Martin’s universe in just a few months.
We also know when and where the 10-part series will premiere in the United Kingdom. Following the introduction of House of the Dragon, Sky Atlantic, the same channel that showed Game of Thrones, has renewed its partnership with HBO. Of course, the show will also be available on NOW.

House of the Dragon: Everything We Know
- House of the Dragon is a new series based on George R.R. Martin’s 2018 novel Fire & Blood. It is set centuries before the events of Game of Thrones.
- HBO Max has confirmed that the series would launch on August 21, 2022.
- Unlike the first Game of Thrones, this one is planned to have a smaller, more focused cast, centred on the titular House of the Dragon, the Targaryen family, and their immediate court.
- If you can’t wait, Martin is working on an illustrated history of the Targaryens with authors Elio M. Garca Jr. and Linda Antonsson, which will be released on October 25, 2022, based on the lore in Fire and Blood and beyond.
A Game of Thrones Prequel Show, House of the Dragon, Is Coming
HBO programming head Casey Bloys anticipated that House of the Dragon would premiere in two years at the 2020 Television Critics Association press tour. According to Deadline, he remarked, “My guess is sometime in 2022.” Bloys stated that the creative team had already begun writing.
Production will begin in 2021, according to the official Game of Thrones Twitter account. The account even showed a preview of the dragons’ appearance. It tweeted, “Dragons are on their way.”
